Autumn von Flotow

Founding Member & Treasurer

Autumn von Flotow is a foundational leader of the West Slope Westies, having co-founded the organization in 2017 after identifying a critical need for a dedicated social dance community in the Four Corners. As the sole remaining founding member, she provides essential institutional memory and continuity for the organization. Since the nonprofit’s formal incorporation, Autumn has served as Treasurer, where she applies her background in mathematics and financial oversight to ensure the organization’s fiscal health and transparency.

Autumn’s professional journey in Durango began in 2015 as a member of the Mathematics faculty at Fort Lewis College. This academic background serves as the backbone of her approach to community organizing, emphasizing data-driven growth and sustainable systems. Now a resident of the high-altitude community of Aztec, NM, she continues to serve the Durango core through her commute and commitment to the arts.

Beyond her work with the Westies, Autumn is a sophisticated real estate developer currently spearheading Aztec Alchemy. This project involves the complex renovation of a historic building into a mixed-use creative hub, modeled after the successful adaptive reuse seen in Durango’s Smiley Building. Her expertise in navigating building codes, contractor management, and historic preservation is the driving force behind the successful launch and professionalization of The Durango Collective’s Phase 2 expansion.

Lead Organization: West Slope Westies (501c3)

Founded in 2017, West Slope Westies is a volunteer-led nonprofit dedicated to preserving and growing Durango’s social dance culture. For nearly a decade, the organization has provided affordable dance education and fostered a safe space for community expression. Since achieving 501(c)(3) status in 2022, the Westies have significantly expanded their impact, engaging over 170 students in 2025 alone.
Beyond weekly instruction, the organization hosts an annual masterclass workshop event (4 Corners West Coast Weekend 2019, 2022 – 2023, revamped to Swing Days Ablaze 2024 – current) a premier regional event that draws world-class professional dancers to Durango, contributing to local tourism and overnight stays. As the operator of The Durango Collective, West Slope Westies leverages its institutional experience to manage a multi-disciplinary downtown hub. Their mission is rooted in the belief that movement arts are a vital tool for community bonding and personal wellbeing, ensuring that Durango remains a vibrant center for the arts for generations to come.
